Blondes have more fun. That’s why Summer is the perfect time to add a few highlights or take a dive into the deep end of the pool and go full bombshell. “With so many different kinds of blondes—sunny, warm, cool, grey, platinum—everyone can do it,” says Kara Sestito, a Denver hairstylist working in The Grid. “I always take note of people’s eye color when deciding which shade of blonde we should do. If they have blue eyes, we go for cooler tones, but if they have brown eyes or gold specks, I opt for a warmer shade.”
Color and Commit
When going blonde, Sestito always has clients start out with her bombshell appointment for full highlights and brightening the ends of clients’ hair. If you choose to go platinum, expect to maintain your color every five to six weeks, otherwise highlight touch-ups and gloss treatments should happen every six-to-eight weeks. However, you can choose to balayage your hair instead of highlighting it, which means the color is more naturally faded into your hair already, so your color only requires touch-ups about twice a year.

Highlights and Hydration
“It’s so important, especially in Colorado, to hydrate your hair when going lighter,” says Sestito. “Use professional quality products like Olaplex, Davines and BlondeMeLightener. Use purple shampoo to keep the brass tones out of your hair, but alternate with another, more hydrating, less toning shampoo as well.” She also recommends regular glosses, deep conditioning and hair masks.
“The trend right now is a blunt cut to showcase how healthy your hair is with almost any length hair, although longer is definitely more popular right now.” Other things to consider for maintaining your healthy hair are wearing hats in the sun, opting for scrunchies and clips over hair bands and brushing your hair every day to redistribute the oils.
“Lightness enhances your features and brightens your skin tone—people actually feel happier!” Brighten your day when you lighten your hair for this Summer style.
