For Nathan Veliz, founder of Cuff & Crease, the perfect bespoke suit comes down to three essential elements: fit, fabric, and function. “Separately, fabric is the foundation of clothing, fit gives movement and life, and function provides longevity and sustainability,” he explains.
Founded in 2019, Cuff & Crease specializes in fully custom suits. Unlike made-to-measure, a bespoke garment begins from scratch with a unique paper pattern created specifically for an individual’s body, posture, and preferences. “It’s handcrafted where it matters most,” Nathan says, “using thousands of hand stitches to shape the canvas, lapels, collar, and sleeves.” The result is a truly handmade garment, one that can take 60 to 100 hours of skilled craftsmanship to complete.
Before a single measurement is taken, Nathan believes understanding the client comes first. Whether it’s casual or business wear, Cuff & Crease wants to know how clients live, work, and travel. Their profession, their habits, and their comfort preferences all play a role in creating a suit that feels personal, not just tailored.
For weddings and special occasions, Cuff & Crease considers the formality of the event, the color palette, time of day, and location. “We style every aspect,” Nathan says. “That’s one thing that sets us apart; we’re designers.”
The experience, he says, matters just as much as the final product. With a new studio on the way in the Golden Triangle district, Cuff & Crease is creating a space where clients can slow down and enjoy the process. Guests will be able to explore an expanded fabric library, discover thoughtfully curated accessories, and settle into a private tailoring room with an espresso or handcrafted cocktail in hand. The space is built for comfort and conversation, the kind that lets every detail get the attention it deserves.
For Nathan, the true measure of a bespoke suit is not simply how it looks the day it is completed, but how it becomes part of someone’s life over time. “I hope they don’t think about the suit at all,” he says. “I hope they simply know it’s the right thing to wear, like your favorite shirt that you know looks and feels great because it’s molded to you over time.”
