Summer in Denver makes a strong case for staying put. The days stretch, the patios fill, and your calendar becomes a series of loosely planned yeses. A walk turns into a drink, a drink turns into dinner, and before you know it, you’ve spent five hours outside and called it a plan. It’s the kind of season that rewards a little spontaneity and very little commitment. And sunscreen.
There’s something so satisfying about leaning into your own backyard this time of year. About finally making it to the spots you’ve been meaning to try and remembering why you liked the ones you already knew. The parks, the neighborhoods, the restaurants that feel even better with the doors open and the sun still hanging around.
And then there’s a day at the ballpark. It’s one of those quintessential summer rituals that never gets old. The hum of the crowd, the crack of the bat, a hot dog that doesn’t taste nearly as good if you were eating it anywhere else. And sunscreen. In this issue, we go behind the scenes at Coors Field to see what it really takes to pull off a game day, from early-morning prep to the final inning.
Because while Denver gets a lot of attention for what’s just outside of it, summer is a good reminder that what’s right here holds its own.
