Why go now?
The “Clear Colorado Skies” package is available through the summer.
What you get
The celestial package includes two nights of deluxe accommodations for two, breakfast for two both mornings, and in the evening, private transportation up Flagstaff Mountain or into Chautauqua Park with a guide to gaze at the night sky. The expedition comes complete with a picnic basket filled with a charcuterie plate, a bottle of wine, and sweets.
The extras
We also got a fascinating historic tour of the hotel, which boasts one of the oldest working Otis elevators in existence, an artesian water drinking fountain, and tons of photos from the last century lining the walls. Our amazingly knowledgeable and personable guide, Ned, took us up the incline at Chautauqua, set up his scope on a tripod, and aimed it at the horizon. We got a great look at the full moon (in such high definition that we could see the edges of craters), as well as several hard-to-spot constellations. The next morning, we strolled along the adjacent Pearl Street Mall and hiked on the nearby Mesa Trail. An all-star weekend, to be sure.
