1Elle’s Eggs

Tom Wendel Dvm and his wife Kim help their 8-year-old daughter Elle raise chickens on their farm in Elbert, CO. “Elle got her first chicks when she was six years old,” says Kim Wendel. “Her Dad, an equine veterinarian and owner of Wendel Veterinary Services, loves agriculture and all things animal and encouraged the chicken love affair. Elle’s Eggs began last year once the first crop of chicks began to lay.” Elle’s Eggs are available through her father’s Wendel Veterinary Services. She has two coops to keep the new batch of chicks separate until they are the same size as the adults.
It’s a great project for kids with an added bonus—farm fresh eggs. “Farm fresh eggs are so much tastier than store-bought eggs. They’re richer and healthier as well. Plus, the chickens have a great life. They get played with and tended to. Our daughter just loves them.”
