Do a Stand-Up Comedy Routine

Challenge yourself to get up in front of a crowd this summer.

The challenge

Perform a two-minute stand-up routine on New Talent Night at Denver’s Comedy Works.

Chance you’ll survive

100 percent. In fact, you’ll probably be a better, more courageous person for giving it a shot.

How to do it

Two minutes might not sound like much, but when you’re up in front of that mic, it will feel like a lifetime, so no need to dive in with anything longer than that. New Talent Night happens every Tuesday at 8 p.m. To get your name on the list, call Comedy Works’ hotline at 303-477-7844 on a Wednesday. The club gets more than 100 calls each week, so it might take a while to get picked (usually up to two months). Don’t stop trying—call back each Wednesday, after the selections for the following week have been posted on the hotline’s answering machine. Once you’re selected, get to practicing your routine! Check-in closes 30 minutes before the show starts, and the set order is posted 15 minutes before the lights go down.
