2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Competizione

Stylish design and high performance blend in the attitude-laden special edition 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Competizione, celebrating Alfa Romeo’s 110 years of automotive history.

For iconoclasts seeking a dose of Italian exoticism that does not come with a six-figure price tag, the distinctive but enjoyably versatile Alfa Romeo Stelvio might do the trick. The four-door, midsized SUV, named after the legendary motoring pass in the Eastern Alps, debuted in 2017. Its $58,900 2024 Competizione special edition, part of a recent model-wide refresh, is a way of adding even more brio to your drive.

Made slightly more mysterious with an optional, understated matte gray paint job, you’ll soon discover everyone thinks you are packing the snarling 505-horsepower, 176-mph-capable, Ferrari-developed 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 featured in the $88,000 Stelvio Quadrifoglio model. That’s not quite the case, though. The Competizione’s own 280-hp 2.0-liter turbo engine is given more spirit with its big brother’s active suspension, red brake calipers, and gloss-black 21- inch five-hole wheels. You’ll still get an espresso rush of boost when needed and all-wheel-drive handling that’s more entertaining than its competitors, with a carbon-fiber driveshaft to cut vehicle weight.

And the 185-inch-long Stelvio defies SUV ubiquity, especially with its iconic triangular grille and threelens headlamps. Inside, the Competizione’s body-hugging leather race seats, leather and metallic trim, and oversized shift paddles speak to Alfa’s performance pedigree. Other Italian eccentricities such as a steering wheel-mounted starter button, a TomTom navigation system with audible photo radar warnings, and turn signals with a 1970s ticktock sound all keep the experience one of a kind.
