McKenzie Parrott is a Colorado-based artist and painter who founded Parrott Paints in 2020. Known for her nature-inspired artwork and what she describes as “imperfect lines,” she brings a playful, expressive quality to each piece. Two years after launching, Anthropologie recognized her signature aesthetic and created a collection featuring sheets, pillows, towels, quilts, and rugs.

“Wearable design is where Parrott Paints began, and there’s something really special about seeing someone carry your art with them in their daily life,” McKenzie says. But as her brand continues to grow, she sees opportunities far beyond traditional works of art. “I’m really drawn to the idea of building full lifestyle collections,” she adds.

When asked about her creative process, McKenzie explains that her work “usually starts with a feeling rather than a fully formed idea,” drawing inspiration from textures, phrases, or even certain moods she wants to convey, while playing with balance, color, and spacing. Some pieces come together in a few hours; others take much longer. “I try not to overwork things; imperfect quality is really important to me,” she says, preferring pieces that feel lived-in rather than overly polished. “My designs are a direct reflection of how I move through the world: slow, intentional, and inspired by small, meaningful moments.”

Colorado has shaped the overall look and feel of her work, from the shifting seasonal colors and open mountain stretches to what she calls the “quiet simplicity.” The pace of life here has encouraged her to slow down and stay grounded, a lesson we could all learn. “That sense of calm is something I hope people feel when they see or experience my art.”

Currently serving as Artist in Residence at downtown Denver’s The Ramble Hotel, a curated selection of her hand-painted custom jackets will remain on display through July, offering visitors an interactive, immersive way to experience her work. Whether displayed in a gallery, worn as fashion, or styled inside a home, McKenzie’s work maintains the same sense of warmth, whimsy, and individuality.
