The era of great disruption in the world of electrified vehicles is fully upon us, as many long anticipated. While many carmakers have radically scaled back their plans for an EV future, the all-electric rendition of the GMC Hummer has, perhaps ironically, lived up to every promise made when it debuted in the fall 2020. Both pickup truck and SUV variants of the Hummer EV are still very much in production, and in demand.
For its 2026 model year, GMC added a couple of custom carbon fiber editions of the gargantuan vehicle. These not only pack extra-glossy, blacked-out looks—22-inch wheels are standard—but also unlock the Hummer’s electronic architecture to produce capabilities that seem more like aircraft specs than four-wheeled machines.
The top-of-the-line Hummer 3X’s three-motor system and optional, high-output battery now provide the pickup with inconceivable 1,160 horsepower and 13,000 lb-ft of torque. That means roughly 20 times the pulling power of an equally sizeable Cadillac Escalade-V, by comparison.
And despite over 9,000 pounds of curb weight, the fully juiced combo allows launch control-optimized 0-60 times of 2.8 seconds, a truly brain-melting and physics-defying experience. Slightly slower speeds can eke out up to 363 miles of range on more standard-output models, giving it similar utility as its electrified GMC Sierra EV cousin.
Hummer’s true strengths still live in its off-roading capabilities, and the new vehicles can further articulate their all-terrain-tire-equipped rear wheels for nearly sideways movement.
