Long revered by Volvo enthusiasts as the creator of that venerable Swedish brand’s typically blue-colored, high-performance editions, Polestar has come into its own as an exclusive maker of electric vehicles. And with the debut of the new Polestar 3, an SUV-styled EV that boasts up to 315 miles of range, Brembo brakes, and output exceeding 500 horsepower, the brand is poised to develop a larger footprint— with style and technology as engaging as any other EV on the market.
Still intertwined with Volvo, the Polestar 3 shares its basic architecture with the new, three-row Volvo EX90, though the Polestar rendition offers two rows and an impressive amount of space with reclining front seats and an entirely flat passenger floor. But it’s a much more engaging and design-focused experience than the existing Polestar 2, with unique touches such as a flow-through spoiler on its nose and a substantial air dam in the rear. Despite its much larger footprint, the Polestar 3 is still fast and rides smoothly, with full-time all-wheel drive as well. The air suspension system can also be raised to allow 10.5 inches of clearance for snow or mild off-road adventures.
Underneath a massive panoramic glass sunroof, you’ll find a user-friendly assortment of column-mounted controls and multipurpose steering wheel buttons. Those include a much larger and more useful digital instrument display and a 14.5-inch horizontally oriented touchscreen to handle the Google-integrated navigation and overthe- air software updates. A 25-speaker, 1,600-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system is also available, as are 22-inch wheels and napa leather. And true to Polestar traditions, it still sports bright, copper-colored seatbelts.
In 2025, the Polestar 3 will also begin to integrate LIDAR technology that will advance the vehicle into further steps of self-driving abilities. Delivery of Polestar 3s, now manufactured at a joint Volvo facility in South Carolina, began in the fall, with a local, boutique-styled showroom in Cherry Creek offering demonstration drives.
