In BMW-, Lexus-, and Subaru-crazed Colorado, Genesis—Hyundai’s luxury automobile brand—has led a somewhat under-the-radar presence since its 2016 U.S. debut. But that may get a supercharged boost as Genesis’ ultra-speedy, stylish, and technologically advanced 2023 GV60 electric compact crossover makes its way to local highways, complete with all-wheel drive for year-round Colorado outings.
With the GV60’s $65,560, twin-electric- motor Performance model, that means an instantly- accessible 429 horsepower that rivals an electric scooter in its head-snapping pickup. Should you require even more presence keeping up with Teslas on I-25, there’s a slightly ominous yellow “Boost” button on the racy steering wheel that ups that number to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds.
The net result, especially with GV60’s diminutive, 178-inch-long stature and its oversized 21-inch wheels and tires, is an EV amplification of the brand’s already superb driving character. It’s fantastically smooth, it corners with magnificent grace and is entirely silent, unless you’d like to dial up a variety of synthesized locomotion noises to dilute the stealth-bomber effect.
The quiet fury is complemented by GV60’s suite of premium features, including wonderfully precise, pinstriped and perforated Nappa leather seating, a Bang and Olufsen premium audio system, and electronic displays that are wide but not overwhelming.
While it lacks the truly shock-and-awe features of its larger sedan cousin, the G90 (self-closing doors and rear-steering wheels), the GV60 gets facial recognition and fingerprint biometric scanning technology to replace key fobs, plus unique touches such as a crystal sphere that spins into a gear selector and remote-controlled forward-and-back parking functionality.
