Designer Interview

How would you describe your design style and point of view?

My design style is refined and comfortable, but I don’t begin with a particular look. I begin by understanding how a space needs to function and looking for possibilities that may not be immediately obvious. From there, I develop the layout, materials, lighting, furnishings, and details together so every decision contributes to the whole.

My point of view is that great design improves the way people live. A home should work as beautifully as it looks, and the best solution isn’t always the most obvious one.

What drew you to this space, and what excited you most about designing it?

I immediately saw this bedroom and bath as a guest suite, particularly for visiting grandparents. That gave me an opportunity to think about hospitality from a slightly different perspective: How do you make guests feel genuinely comfortable and welcome while also considering the things that can make a space easier to use as we age?

I was excited by the challenge of creating a beautiful, sophisticated suite where those considerations are simply part of the design rather than calling attention to themselves. It should work equally well for grandparents, friends, or any other overnight guest.

Describe the vision for your room in three words—and why those words matter.

Welcoming. Serene. Considered.

Welcoming because a guest room should make someone feel that the space was prepared with them in mind.

Serene because the restrained color palette, soft textures, and natural influences create a sense of calm without feeling bland or impersonal.

Considered because many of the most important decisions are subtle—from features that make the suite easier for visiting grandparents to unexpected moments of discovery in the artwork. Those details make the experience better for every guest.
