Bedroom #2
At Red Chair Designs, we aim to create spaces that reflect the personality, values and tastes of the people who live there. Homes that become a statement about their owners. Homes that invite peace, comfort, and ease, and become a welcoming retreat from the outside world.
One of the key differentiators that sets Red Chair Designs apart from other interior design companies is the attention we give to Your Design DNA©. We believe every decision will impact the feel of your home so we make sure we are on the right track from the first decision to the last.
Designer Interview
What was the overall vision for your space?
I wanted to create a retreat from the outside world that displayed an elevated design sense that could accommodate either an older child or adult guest. For this reason I tried to stay gender neutral.
What’s your favorite thing about your space?
I love the decorative painting that my artist friend, Mimi Finn, has done. I love wallpaper these days but nothing is as personal and custom as involving a decorative painter from the very beginning. We worked together to come up with an overall theme for the room.
What advice would you give to homeowners regarding the key things to keep in mind when designing (your) space?
When designing a bedroom, make sure you take into consideration all the ways the occupant wants to use it. Bedrooms aren’t just used for sleeping. If it’s a young child, will they play in here? If so, make sure to offer space on the floor or a table and have easy to use storage so they can put everything away. If it’s an older child, will they have friends over who need a place to sit other than on the bed? A bench, ottoman, or beanbag chair might be a good option. If it’s to be used as a guest room, make sure they have space for their suitcase while also offering storage space to unpack. This is where you don’t need to use typical bedroom furniture for short visit storage. Maybe a large nightstand or dining buffet could service for storage instead of a dresser? Make it multi functional while still being inviting and restful.
