“This is an espresso martini for whiskey lovers. Our Four Grain Bourbon shines in this cocktail. The vanilla custard and cinnamon flavors come through, and the bourbon’s sweetness smooths out the bitterness of the espresso.”—Al Laws, president and founder, Laws Whiskey House

Ask the President and Founder: Al Laws

“The distillery is our whiskey church. This will be our Whiskey Sanctuary.”

“Seven years in the making—I am so excited to finally see it open.”

“We envision guests coming here to tour the distillery, do a tasting afterward, maybe purchase some bottles, and then enjoy cocktails in our Whiskey Sanctuary.”

“Chef Jen Jasinski is a really good friend, and she is helping us with our food menu. We will have charcuterie, tinned fish, and other small bites.”

“The space is brutalist. We don’t have a lot of decor. It’s mostly about the whiskey.”

“When people say they don’t like whiskey, I ask if they like art, science, history… Because these are all things you will learn about on our tour as well. We really like to nerd out. Even if you start the tour not liking whiskey, you will leave with an appreciation for it.”

“With our expanded cocktail menu, we can introduce even more people to whiskey in ways that are more accessible than drinking it neat.”

“We don’t have a master distiller here. Instead, our master distiller is our village. It’s more egalitarian that way, everyone gets to contribute their input, and the best ideas rise to the top.”
