Live music is good for business. According to a recent study by Broadcast Music, Inc., 85% of customers are happier with good music playing, and 79% are likely to stay longer as a result. Live music is particularly beneficial for restaurants, as the same report found that 83% of customers believe good music at a bar or restaurant creates a more memorable experience, and 73% associate good music with good food and drinks.

Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club didn’t need this study to let them in on the secret recipe for a successful restaurant. Located in the heart of RiNo and just blocks from Five Points, Nocturne honors its neighboring neighborhood’s roots and continues the long legacy of entertainment- centric supper clubs. Known in its heyday as the ‘Harlem of the West,’ Five Points once boasted over fifty jazz bars and clubs, hosting performances by local artists and famous touring musicians like Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis.

Upholding that legacy today, Nocturne gives local and traveling jazz artists a stage for month-long residencies and one-off performances. In the swanky bi-level club, heavy velvet curtains surround the stage, blocking outside distractions from infiltrating the underground vibe. A sweeping staircase leads to the tables overlooking the main stage, while a colorful mural of Ella Fitzgerald by legendary local artist Detour, known for highlighting advocates, activists, and athletes in public artworks around the city, anchors the space. Another Detour mural, this one a collaboration with Carmen Richards of Billie Holiday, adorns the building’s exterior.

If you’re looking to stop in for a pre-dinner bite or post-dinner dessert, grab a seat at the bar. For the full experience, book a Dinner and a Show reservation complete with a three-course meal. Or, go all out with the Ellington Experience: a chef’s fivecourse tasting menu paired with sommelier- chosen wines, an opportunity to meet the chef, and premium seats. In an effort to keep the community’s jazz legacy alive and accessible, Nocturne is introducing a monthly Sunday matinée performance accompanied by light bites for only $10. It’s a great reinforcement of the study’s findings that good music paired with good food creates an unforgettable experience.
