A Roaming Colorado Bookshop Is Changing How We Discover Stories

For anyone who’s ever believed a good book should take you somewhere, and wondered why the bookstore couldn’t do the same.

Books have always been portals to new places, new ideas, new versions of ourselves. So why shouldn’t the bookshop itself offer that same sense of exploration?

The Abeille Truck does exactly that. With spines stacked on the side of a sagegreen 1999 truck, the roaming book-and-flower shop reimagines what it means to be a bookseller. Instead of anchoring herself to a single storefront, owner Annelise Rothe chose movement: the freedom to wander, to pop up where curiosity already lives, and to let the shop travel just as stories do. It’s a reminder that exploration doesn’t have to stop on the page.

The pairing of books and flowers feels intuitive. “To me, books and flowers go hand in hand because both bring joy and light into a world where so much is happening,” Annelise says. “Books enrich the brain and soul, while flowers enrich our hearts and senses.” Both are invitations to slow down, to notice beauty, to take something living (or lasting) home with you. The name Abeille, French for honeybee, nods to that same philosophy: bees move constantly, gathering, connecting, and sustaining entire ecosystems as they go.

You’ll spot the Abeille Truck around Douglas County, stocked with thoughtfully chosen romance, fantasy, and thriller titles, fresh bouquets, and bookish gifts that feel personal rather than precious. Readers ready to track down the bookmobile can sign up for Annelise’s newsletter or follow along on Instagram to see where she’ll be popping up next.
