Designer Interview

What was the overall vision for your space?
My overall vision was to create a multi-functional, elevated space that felt like a true extension of a teen’s personality—calm and comforting, yet creative and inspiring. I wanted to design a space that encourages self-expression, supports focus and downtime, and feels effortlessly livable. By blending soft neutrals with layered textures, thoughtful furniture placement, and natural elements, my goal was to design a loft that feels both grounded and uplifting—one that adapts with the teen as they grow and evolve.

What’s your favorite thing about your space?
My favorite thing about the space is how it feels. It’s cozy and calm, but still full of energy and personality—just like the teens it was designed for. I love that it offers flexibility for lounging, studying, or just being creative, all while feeling beautifully pulled together. And if I had to pick one feature, it’s the built-in bench. It brings in light, offers a place to pause, and adds that custom touch that makes the room feel truly special.

What advice would you give to homeowners regarding the key things to keep in mind when designing (your) space?
My advice to homeowners is to design your space with both function and feeling in mind. Start by thinking about how you want the space to work for your lifestyle—but just as importantly, how you want it to feel when you walk in. Layer in comfort, be intentional with color and texture, and don’t be afraid to leave space for your personality to evolve over time.
